Hi! I'm Vii. This is a little about me, since Dreamwidth seems to be sucking me in.

She/her, they/them. Software development engineer who spends all their free time learning about everything except software engineering. I write and draw for fun, and consume fanfiction like mad.

Interests: Original fiction, web novels, webcomics, worldbuilding, linguistics (and conlanging), art, history, technology, psychology... basically everything under the sun. Except (current) politics, which is too divisive too quickly for my taste.

As for specific genres, I like historical fiction, fantasy, especially weird fiction and magical realism, and sci-fi, which I need to read more of.

I eat fanfic for breakfast, but I don't really write fanfic because characterization is hard. Fanart is more likely. I've historically been more of a lurker than a poster, but maybe Dreamwidth's slower pace and finding more communities here will help with that.

So, here's a (non-exhaustive) list of fandoms I have an interest in (as of November 2019):

Fandom Interests

The Addams Family*, Doctor Who, Good Omens, Guardian (镇魂), Hamilton, Harry Potter, Hannibal (NBC), Inception, James Bond (Craig), Jeeves & Wooster*, KHR, Kingsman, Les Miserables (musical, The Brick is to-read), Lucifer (comic), The Magnus Archives, MCU, My Hero Academia, Naruto*, Overwatch*, Pacific Rim, Person of Interest*, Pride and Prejudice, Sandman, Sherlock (BBC, ACD*), The Sentinel*, Stargate (esp. SGA), Steam Powered Giraffe, Supernatural, Temeraire*, Tolkien*, Valdemar, Voltron (Netflix), Welcome to Night Vale, White Collar*, Worm

*I have very limited knowledge of the source material, may or may not return to them, but will read fanfic of it anyway

I'll probably post about linguistics, worldbuilding, writing, drawing, whatever I've been reading and watching lately, and so on. As for fandom stuff, perhaps fic recs, link dumps, and the occasional fanart.

Hello!

Hey! I'm the person you asked about le Carre on the friending meme. My name is B and I am also super new to DreamWidth, but I'm working on getting to know people. Want to get to know each other? I'm studying Chinese in college too, as it happens; it's my major.

Anyway, I do in fact have recommendations on what le Carre to read if you want them:

- if you like a compassionate, slow, thoughtful thriller that takes its time to smell the roses, is full of beautiful prose, and is all about the relationships people have to each other, read Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

- if you want a bleak, stripped down, painfully dark thriller, read The Spy Who Came in from the Cold

- if you like detective novels and extreme homoeroticism and don't mind things being a little rough around the edges because it was le Carre's first novel, read Call for the Dead

- if you want a silly romp that's a lot of fun and super duper (subtextually) gay and don't really care about high quality writing or the plot making sense, read Absolute Friends

I think I've found places to pirate Fringe? but to be honest, it's not actually really worth watching past the third season, and certainly not past the fourth. It takes that trademark Bad Robot Studios nosedive. I do miss Fringe though, so much! Who were your faves?

I started studying Chinese because it was one of the options presented to me in middle school, I chose it because it seemed interesting, I loved it because it WAS interesting and also my teacher was wonderful, and I just. Kept going.

If you have any thoughts on any le Carre novels please hit me up, I can also if you want provide you with comprehensive warnings on shit like "really specific fetishistic antisemitism," "inconsistent writing," and "the fifty year old main character's love interest being twenty."

If you wanna chat feel free to DM me here, on Twitter @holodeckfreud, on tumblr @autisticandroids, or on Discord @areyouready#9369

Hello hello! We don't have a huge amount of overlap in terms of fandom, but we totally match up in other interests! :D I hope dreamwidth ends up being a good place for you!

LOL

I used to dabble in everything, but have moved away from most of it. The only medium I never tried my hand at was fanart as I have zero talent in that area. I love admiring it though!

What flavor of MCU are you most interested in?

Same. I watched some AOS and some Jessica Jones, but really enjoy the films the most. I hear really good things about Daredevil though.

Yay, Good Omens! I'm so looking forward to the renewed interest in that fandom once the TV show hits.

It should definitely be fun to watch! Even the bad Gaiman adaptations are still watchable, luckily.

And thank you! I keep finding tiny fandoms I'd forgotten about on other people's intro posts and have to keep updating that list, haha.

Hi! Thanks for subscribing :) looks like we have a lot in common - I'm fairly monofandom in terms of writing (Tolkien only) but read in a few of the ones you list, and a lot of our other interests overlap. Looking forwards to getting to know you!
