Draw This Again 2011-2019

Redrawing old artwork is a good way to boost one's self-confidence. I made this today and despite all the trouble the last sketch gave me (legs?? perspective?? how??) it's heartening to know that I'm improving, inasmuch learning to spend more time on a single drawing and actually look up references is improvement.

Now, if only I practiced more than once in a blue moon...

Ooh, great improvement! The values and shadows are very nicely handled in the latest one, and in all of them there's that definite sense of personality.

Thank you! I actually had a hard time coming up with what I wanted to do for the latest sketch, because I had no story/purpose behind the initial doodle at all besides "he has goggles and a cool gear design on his shirt" and I wanted to try for a more expressive drawing. I guess I ended up with "moody contemplative teenager" (which coincidentally doesn't give me much expression practice, whoops!)

Next time I might go for steampunk, if I can figure out airships.
