Some prompt fills for [community profile] one_sentence_only, done out of order.

These all take place in my original setting Ten Realms, specifically before/during the events of Of Wind and Sea, a novel that currently only exists in my head. Maybe it'll stay that way; I don't mind. But if anyone wants to know more about it, please ask :)

house

Only after Rhun found himself knee-deep in golden plumes of grass, wind singing across the fields and playing across his skin, did he begin to understand -- those of Wend regarded all of the world as their home.

knitting

"Neither you nor I can pull off green and pink," Ilmari said, and Rhun cast a doleful look at the half-finished scarf in his hands.

dragon

Ibeso cupped a hand around the tiny filigree gift, its delicate gilded wings and ridged neck outstretched, and a phantasm of breath tickled the pad of her thumb.

rebel

She grasped her own soul and tore it asunder -- agony, then exhilaration.

tea

"Humans have a tradition of divining the future from the dregs of their tea," said Ilmari, the shards of the shattered cup as sharp as the line of his smile.

I actually quite like these prompts. The "one sentence only" requirement takes off a lot of the pressure, but is in some sense a lot more challenging than writing longer pieces, because every word counts. The first versions of the first two I wrote -- "house" and "dragon" -- were way too infodump-y, because I was trying to fit an entire story into one sentence. And then I saw [personal profile] narya_flame's wonderful Tolkien fill and realized I didn't have to. Negative space, and all that.

Love these! Especially the tea one, that is absolutely loaded with meaning, and the rhythm and phrasing here is stunning:

he shards of the shattered cup as sharp as the line of his smile.

Just...eeeee <3

Thank you for the rec, that's so kind.
